History of the family

The Olearo family entered the world of wine in 1927, when Ernesto Olearo together with his wife Clementina Razzano, built the first small winery at the current Cà di Corte estate, at the time Casa Vinicola Olearo, with a few hectares of vineyards, giving start of production and marketing of wines.

The company developed considerably starting from the 1940s thanks to the determination and strong entrepreneurial ability of his son Eugenio Olearo, nicknamed “Genio”, grandfather of the current generation, who developed the distribution business by establishing numerous and diversified commercial relationships between Piedmont, Liguria, Valle d’Aosta and Lombardy. The company expanded with the purchase of new land and properties, including Tenuta Castello di Razzano in 1968 from the Caligaris family, and Tenuta Campasso in 1975 from the Toso family, both located a few hundred meters from the main Tenuta Cà di Corte.

The big turning point came in the 1980s with the entry into the company of Augusto Olearo, Eugenio’s son, who, following his oenology studies at the Alba school, with great courage and sagacity, completely overturned the company’s philosophy, until that time based on the marketing of large quantities of wine, planting numerous hectares of vineyards aimed at quality production.
In 2002 Augusto Olearo with foresight began the project of complete renovation of the Castello di Razzano; after 7 years of work, the building returns to its original splendor, with the opening of a charming Relais and the installation of the Museo ArteVino Razzano.

Augusto’s sons, Riccardo and Federico, joined the company in 2006 driven by their passion for the historic family business. Both have absorbed the determination, audacity, entrepreneurial spirit and courage of past generations and look together towards the future of the company.

Currently, Castello di Razzano includes, in addition to the historic production of wine, the production of extra virgin olive oil, a charming Relais, a restaurant and the Museo ArteVino Razzano, which are developed in the company’s three estates: but the spirit of innovation doesn’t stop…
